Performances
Middle school students study one Shakespeare play a year and see it performed in May at The Juilliard School.
Teacher Professional Development
During the spring semester, teachers attend workshops at LCT to learn age-appropriate, hands-on techniques for teaching Shakespeare to middle school students. Teachers develop creative lesson plans that build on the students' experience of seeing a Shakespeare play in performance.
In-Class Workshops with Teaching Artists
Teaching artists conduct a series of interactive workshops to deepen students' knowledge of the play and its characters and to promote their understanding of Shakespeare's language.
Talkbacks
Performances are followed by lively discussions between students and the cast of young actors, who are themselves students at The Juilliard School's Drama Division.
Study Guides and Scripts
Teachers receive study guides with information about Shakespeare and the play being studied, as well as suggestions for classroom activities.
Each participating student receives a copy of the play to keep. Students read and discuss the play in their classrooms.
"Now, when I read Shakespeare I won't just think of it as words -- I'll see it as a play in my head."
